“Buy from a reputable retailer” sounds reassuring—until you have to decide which retailer that means. E-Bike Positive is the cycle industry’s attempt to make that advice more concrete, with a recognisable mark and a directory of participating suppliers.
The Bicycle Association and Association of Cycle Traders launched the UK scheme in July 2026. It brings together verified brands and approved shops, with requirements covering products, batteries, chargers and servicing. This is an explanation of the existing scheme, not a new October launch.

What participation involves
The launch statement distinguishes brands from shops. Brands qualify through an independent audit of safety, quality and regulatory processes. Retailers make commitments about lawful products, compatible batteries and chargers and servicing, and must stock a verified brand. Retailer verification can include documentation checks and mystery shopping.
The scheme is industry-funded through a levy on complete e-bike sales. A supplier’s participation should be checked against the current scheme directory, rather than inferred from a logo on an old advertisement. Ask how the exact model, replacement charger and local service arrangements fit your needs: a badge does not answer every ownership question.
The announcement webpage displays 13 July, while its release text is dated 14 July 2026. We therefore describe the launch by month rather than pretend the source provides one unambiguous day.
Use the mark to start a conversation
Check the current directory at the official scheme website, then ask about the exact bicycle you are considering. Which battery and charger come with it? Who handles electrical servicing locally? How are replacements obtained, and what does the warranty cover?
Those answers remain useful even when the supplier participates in the scheme. A trust mark cannot tell you whether the bike fits your storage space or whether its support arrangements suit your routine. For assisted-cycle requirements in Great Britain, use the official rules.
Our view: less guesswork is a good start
We welcome clearer purchasing information. An industry verification scheme is a useful reference point, rather than a promise that every product can never develop a fault. Choose the bike and its support together: a good purchase needs somewhere to turn when a specification sheet stops being helpful.
